John Brown, vigile aux laboratoires Bradford, rêve de devenir un grand détective pour séduire celle qu’il aime en secret, Brenda Bradford. L’occasion se présente quand, alors que le professeur et sa fille mettent au point leur programme top secret de cyber-policier, le méchant Sanford Scolex organise un cambriolage du laboratoire. Au cours de cette effraction particulièrement violente, le professeur est tué tandis que John Brown fait preuve d’héroïsme. Pour le récompenser, Brenda décide de lui appliquer son programme scientifique.
