Le Poséidon, un gigantesque paquebot de 136000 tonnes, quitte Le Cap pour une longue croisière. Un dangereux groupe de terroristes se fait passer pour des membres de l’équipage et dissimule des explosifs à bord. Après avoir été immobilisé par l’explosion d’un bombe,le paquebot chavire. les survivants doivent alors tout tenter pour sauver leurs vies alors que le Poséidon s’enfonce de plus en plus dans les profondeurs de la mer….
